One-legged Men at a Butt Kicking Contest

In 1997 Weber, Edsinger and Garvey spent a year creating a masterpeice, based on a Garvey painting, called One-legged Men at a Butt Kicking Contest. This robot never fails to amaze and horrify, as if the mindless violence and imposed self-loathing of our working-class culture suddenly roused itself from a dumpster shaped like a man, picked up a club, wrapped itself in newspaper, and set itself on fire. Jeff Weber is a machinist, a painter and a sound designer. Aaron Edsinger is a Stanford graduate computer scientist, painter, and engineer. They're a brilliantly talented pair who often (but not always) create together. Now working at the MIT Artificial Intelligence Lab, with Professor Rodney Brooks, they continue to make amazing amalgams of art and mechanical technology, both together and separately.
