Seasons of the Veil is a music-dance-oratorio-ritual based on poem fragments by the ancient Roman writer Petronius, who committed suicide in 66 A.D. to avoid arrest by the Emperor Nero for radical and anti-religious views. Petronius is best known for his epic novel Satyricon, one of the first novels ever written, which examines the deformations and carnal obsessions of ancient Rome. Petronius' poems deal with similar themes - love, lust, betrayal, false religion and the war between rich and poor. The writings which make up the text for Seasons of the Veil resonate with suffering. Garvey's music penetrates to the core of the text, mining an incredibly rich, dreamy prog-rock/neo-classical/jazz/world musical fusion for archetypal melodies and motifs. This work is exhilarating and mysterious, an epic, dark but ultimately uplifting musical journey. Download track 20 above for a sample.

Seasons of the Veil was created in 1995-96, as a multimedia performance for the junkyard-fusion ensemble DeusMachina.
